The YFS Wellness Centre is located on the traditional, ancestral, and occupied territories of many Indigenous Nations. The area known as Tkaronto has been care taken by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat and the Métis Nation. It is now home to many Indigenous Peoples. We acknowledge the present treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.
This territory is subject to the “Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant”, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes region.
We recognize the inherent connections between past and present colonialism and all forms of violence. Further, we recognize one of the ongoing effects of colonization being the disproportionate rate at which Indigenous peoples, particularly women, Two-Spirit and trans people, face violence.
In acknowledging this, we reflect on the privilege of being present on this land while challenging ourselves to decolonize our campuses and our minds. A journey of wellness begins with acknowledging our histories.
We aim to support you in that journey by discussing harm reduction, supporting survivors of sexual violence, addressing mental health and physical health.
